Let me start by saying that I am going to refer to this 3PlaneSoft-developed application as Mechanical Clock. Using the complete name over and over again would be too much of a bother. With that out of the way, let’s get started.

The first thing you need to know is what the Mechanical Clock application can do for you. It’s functionality it quite obvious from its name (it’s full name), but I am going to spell it out for you anyway. You can use Mechanical Clock as your desktop screensaver. When the computer goes idle, the screensaver shows up and displays a beautiful mechanical clock.

The interesting thing about Mechanical Clock is that it does not display a clock from the outside. This application displays the inner working of the clock - the spinning wheels and all the other moving parts. It can prove to be quite fascinating.

You can also use Mechanical Clock as your desktop wallpaper. By using Mechanical Clock you have a dynamic, moving wallpaper, and not a traditional static wallpaper.

Mechanical Clock plays music by default. If you don’t like that music, you can turn it off either from the Settings pane or by pressing M on your keyboard. The great thing is that you can have Mechanical Clock play your own music. From the Settings pane you can create a playlist and Mechanical Clock will play the tracks in that playlist.

Installation – at the time of writing this, Mechanical Clock provides support for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit editions). You can install the application in English, German, French and Russian. During the installation process you are asked to install the 3Planesoft Screensaver Manager. This manager provides information about your currently installed 3PlaneSoft screensaver and about other screensaver 3PlaneSoft has to offer. The manager allows you to access the settings of all the 3PlaneSoft screensavers installed on your system. It also comes with a feature to automatically change the screensaver after a specific amount of time, or to display a different screensaver each time the computer goes idle. This manager is quite useful if you have more than one 3PlaneSoft screensaver.
Limitations – after 90 seconds a nag screen will appear. To get rid of this nag screen you have to purchase a license.
